FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Mayor Tony Chavonne said Tuesday that he wants to continue leading Fayetteville.

In announcing his re-election bid, Chavonne is seeking his fourth two-year term as mayor.

"We've made great progress over the past several years," Chavonne said.

Fayetteville's per capita income growth is among the highest nationwide, he said, crime is down and investments leading to new jobs are expanding.

"At this important time in our city, the stakes are too high, the opportunities are too great, the future is too bright not to continue to push forward," he said. "We see the hopes of opportunity right around the corner. The critical decisions we make over the next several years will determine if we can continue to turn that opportunity into success."
