RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake County Commissioner Kenn Gardner was ousted Tuesday by Democratic challenger Stan Norwalk.
The move could revise the balance of power on the board of commissioners, currently split evenly between Republicans and Democrats. The addition of Norwalk gives Democrats a 4-2 majority.
Norwalk held the lead over Gardner – 55 percent to 45 percent – with 96 percent of precincts reporting.
Democrats Harold Webb and Betty Lou Ward appeared to be en route to re-election.
