Person County Sheriff's Office investigating death of 1-year-old boy

The Person County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 1-year-old child over the weekend.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Northside View in Roxboro around 10 a.m. on May 24. 

A 49-year-old woman and a 2-year-old girl were present in the house when deputies arrived. 

Person County Sheriff Jason Wilborn told WRAL the child who died had previous medical conditions, but he did not elaborate on the specifics.

He also said his agency is assisting with the medical examiner in determining how the child died.  

“With any child death, the medical examiner’s office is called to help investigate the death,” Wilborn wrote in a statement. 

Wilborn told WRAL his investigators said nothing was “out of place” at the residence, and the “preliminary autopsy results did not show any internal injuries.”

He expects the toxicology report from the Medical Examiner’s Officer to take a couple of months.
