Over 1,150 pounds of illegal THC products seized after falsely advertised as CBD, Apex police say

Apex police seized more than 1,150 pounds of illegal marijuana products that were marketed as CBD.

In a Facebook post written by the department, parents and residents reached out to police over the past several weeks with concerns that underaged people were being sold products marketed as CBD. 

After investigating, detectives found that a single distributor was supplying several vape shops with products advertised as CBD but contained 10 to 40 times the legal limit of Delta-9 THC, according to their testing. The testing was done at Avazyme in Durham, according to police.

Police said the distributor is located on Westgate Road in Raleigh. They did not say if they plan to press charges.

Police said that many believed they were used mild, legal CBD when they were actually ingesting something more potent without their knowledge. 

"Our concern is transparency, safety and staying within the law," the post wrote. "People deserve to know exactly what they’re putting into their bodies, and businesses are expected to follow the legal limits set by North Carolina. When those limits are ignored, the risk goes up for everyone, especially teens who may trust what they’re being told they’re buying."

Apex police seized and removed more than 1,150 pounds of these products from circulation. They did not provide details of the product itself and if they plan to charge anyone or a business in connection.
