RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Symphony will perform a free concert in Raleigh on Sept. 4, city officials announced Tuesday.

The concert at the Raleigh Amphitheater will kick-off the symphony's 2011-12 season.

"“Sample Your Symphony" will feature the works of Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, John Williams and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The show is one of four free concerts that the symphony is contracted with the City of Raleigh to provide each year. In turn, the city allocates $200,000 annually to the symphony and provides the use of the city-owned Meymandi Concert Hall rent free.
