RALEIGH, N.C. — Special Olympics North Carolina kicked off its “Over the Edge” fundraiser at the Oxford restaurant in Raleigh on Thursday night.

Each thrill seekers who raises $1,000 will earn the chance to rappel down a 30-story building on Oct. 1.

The Special Olympics is billing it as a way to check off a bucket-list item and help out a great cause.

Last year, WRAL-TV’s Ken Smith joined dozens of people in rappelling down the 30-story Wachovia Capitol Center in downtown Raleigh.

The fundraiser raised more than $100,000 in 2010.
