Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — About 180 volunteers spent Saturday packing 5,000 gift boxes to be shipped to North Carolina-based service members deployed overseas.
The North Carolina State Employees Credit Union organized the "Support the Troops" campaign. Items on soldiers' wish lists were collected at SECU's 233 branches across the state.
The United States Postal Service sent an eighteen-wheeler to collect the packed gift boxes.
A SECU spokeswoman said the campaign started with one successful project in Roanoke Rapids. There, SECU members gave stockings to more than 1,000 service members.
