— A Cary Catholic school was the only one in the Triangle to be named a national Blue Ribbon school by the U.S. Department of Education.

St Michael the Archangel School, at 810 High House Road, is one of three in the state to earn the honor. The others are Our Lady of mercy in Winston-Salem and Laurel Elementary in Marshall.

The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools that are either high performing or have improved student achievement to high levels, especially among disadvantaged students.
