BOONE, N.C. — A man running barefoot across North Carolina for charity has completed his 760-mile trek.

Matt Jenkins raised more than $5,000 for a program in Boone called Western Youth Network that provides services for area youths and their families.

The run from the coast to the mountains, which Jenkins accomplished without shoes, took him about a month to finish. He ran about 12 hours a day and lost 20 pounds during the run, which he finished on Aug. 13.

Jenkins would have finished sooner, but he was bitten by copperhead snake on Aug. 3 and had to wait until his foot healed to get back on the road.
