Cumberland County names Principal of Year

— Lake Rim Elementary School Principal Renee LaHuffman Jackson has been selected as the 2010 Wachovia Principal of the Year for Cumberland County Schools.

Jackson has served as a school administrator for eight years and was a teacher for seven years before that. She is co-writing a book entitled “Educational Leaders Reflecting on Multicultural Education.”

She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a doctorate in educational leadership from Fayetteville State University and a master's degree in educational information from Chapman University in California.

Jackson will face other local award recipients from the Sandhills/South Central Region of the state in the Wachovia Principal of the Year competition. Regional winners will be selected in February, and the state winner will be named in April.
