Orange County names Clifton as manager

The Orange County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday named Frank Clifton as county manager.

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — The Orange County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday named Frank Clifton as county manager.

Clifton, who has served as interim manager since June, will oversee the daily operations of Orange County government. He will be paid an annual salary of $161,200.

“The board has high hopes and high expectations that Mr. Clifton will continue to lead the county forward as he has for the past few months,” Valerie Foushee, chairwoman of the board, said in a statement.

Clifton previously served as county manager in Onslow and Cabarrus counties and city manager of Casselberry, Fla., and Bristol, Tenn.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in management and finance from the University of South Florida and a master’s degree in city management from East Tennessee State University. He also has taken part in the City-County Government Administration Program at the School of Government at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
