RALEIGH, N.C. — State lawmakers hosted a "Welcome Home" ceremony Tuesday for the 805th Military Police, an Army Reserve unit, and approved a resolution honoring the service of Specialist Daniel "Lucas" Elliott.

The Franklin County man was killed in Iraq last July when the vehicle he was driving hit an improvised explosive device.

Elliott joined the military after watching coverage of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on television, his mother told WRAL News.

Patti Elliott was on the House floor to hear the resolution on her son's behalf.

The 805th recently returned from deployment to Iraq.
