Cary man gets $6K for unclaimed property

Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — State Treasurer Janet Cowell gave a Cary man an unclaimed property check for $6,000 at the N.C. State Fair on Friday.
Cary resident Bill Hulbert found the money he had coming to him after searching the NC Cash website. He said it took him less than 30 seconds to determine there was money waiting for him.
Residents have lost nearly $400 million over the years. The money is deposited in the state's unclaimed property program.
The money is waiting to be claimed, but proceeds from the fund's investments are required by law to go toward scholarships and loans for needy college students.
