'Robust security plan': NC State prepares for graduation after threat

Security is heightened this weekend for several graduation ceremonies around the area.

It's top of mind for students at NC State. Last month, officers arrested a man accused of threatening to shoot Duke Energy's CEO during his commencement speech at Carter-Finley Stadium on Saturday.

24-year-old Luke Hoover was charged with communicating a threat of violence on educational property. Hoover has no connection with NC State, the university said. 

As a condition of his bond, Hoover cannot go on any NC State property.

"The safety of our graduates, their guests and our entire campus community is the highest priority at commencement," the university said.

NC State said it has a robust security plan in place.

All students and guests will be subject to a search when entering Carter-Finley Stadium. The university also has a clear bag policy for events.
