Fayetteville police arrested a suspect who they allege “negligently” fired his handgun in the Walmart on Skibo Road, the city’s police department announced on Saturday.

Fayetteville police said they responded to reports of shots fired shortly after noon on Saturday at the Walmart. They identified a man with a concealed handgun and a woman who had sustained “a superficial graze from the unintentional negligent firearm discharge, which did not require medical attention,” police said. Officers also found evidence “consistent with a firearm discharge in one of the store aisles,” they said.

Police said they’re charging the man with carrying a concealed weapon and discharging a firearm within city limits. The department didn’t immediately release the man’s name, but said they would disclose his identity at the conclusion of the booking process at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
