Pedestrian killed on I-95 near Benson overnight, road reopens

Interstate 95 has reopened near Benson after a deadly pedestrian crash closed the southbound lanes for hours overnight.

The crash was reported before 2:30 a.m. on Sunday at Exit 79 for N.C. Highway 50/West Main Street.

According to the State Highway Patrol, a commercial motor vehicle hit a pedestrian in the roadway, and the person died. No charges have been filed. 

The southbound lanes were blocked for several hours but have since reopened.

The crash remains under investigation.
