Fight at Knightdale High School cafeteria: 16-year-old girl charged, administrator injured

Knightdale High School students are safe after a fight Friday in the school’s cafeteria, according to interim principal Kevin Hill.

A 16-year-old girl was taken into custody and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting A serious injury. Authorities are holding her at the Wake Juvenile Detention Center on a $20,000 secured bond.

WRAL News is working to find out what kind of weapon the girl used. Earlier on Friday, Hill wrote that authorities hadn't found any weapons on campus in an email to parents.

Knightdale police said after a student walkout, two students got into a fight in the cafeteria. A school staff member suffered a laceration to the forearm while trying to intervene and deescalate the situation, police said.

“During the altercation, one administrator who was attempting to intervene received a laceration on the arm,” Hill wrote in a letter to parents. “We are working with law enforcement on the investigation.”

Police said the staff member received medical treatment. The injury is not considered life-threatening, according to the police.

“Please take this opportunity to remind your child that fighting on campus is a very serious offense and subject to disciplinary action and may also carry legal consequences,” Hill wrote. “The students involved in today’s incident will be disciplined in accordance with WCPSS policies.”
