C.E. Jordan High School lifts lockdown after Durham officers respond to shots-fired call nearby

C.E. Jordan High School lifted its lockdown Wednesday afternoon after a nearby shots fired call, a district spokesperson said.

The school at 6806 Garrett Road lifted its lockdown around 1:40 p.m. Wednesday. It had been in lockdown since around noon Wednesday.

The Durham Police Department and Durham County Sheriff's Office responded to a shots-fired call just before noon near the school. Police said callers reported people running.

Authorities have not found any victims as of Wednesday afternoon.

A Durham Public Schools spokesperson said the activity was outside and around the neighborhood, but not on the school’s campus.

Sky 5 flew over the scene on Wednesday afternoon. Sky 5 video showed 11 evidence markers on the ground.

WRAL News has asked Durham police who investigators believe was involved in the gunfire incident and what led up to it. 

Sharday Casey is a parent of a Jordan High School student. She described Wednesday's incident.

"[I was] nervous [and] scared because all of the shootings that are going on in the schools in different states," Casey said. "It makes you nervous to send your child to school. It's just a scary moment as a parent. It's a scary moment."

State troopers also responded to the scene.
