Clayton teen dies from crashing into tree near Four Oaks after I-40 chase

A 16-year-old from Clayton died in an overnight crash on Saturday after crashing on Hockaday Road near Four Oaks. The crash occurred moments after the teen was seen speeding on Interstate 40.

Just before midnight on Friday, A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper tried to stop a driver in a Chrysler 300 for speeding on I-40 East in Johnston County.

The driver, Cohen Josef Quigley, did not pull over and the pursuing trooper continued to follow him on I-40. At one point, Quigley drove onto US-301 and then turned onto Baker Street in Four Oaks. The trooper stopped pursuing him.

Minutes later, another trooper found the car along Hockaday Road. The car crashed into a tree after crossing the center line.

Quigley died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to NCSHP. A passenger in the car had minor injuries.

NCSHP troopers, Four Oaks fire crews and Johnston County EMS all responded.
