4 guns stolen, 12 cars broken into during Friday’s concert at the Lenovo Center

Raleigh police are investigating after 12 cars were broken into a Friday night concert at the Lenovo Center.

In total, Raleigh police said four guns were stolen. They arrested one man, Dontarius Barrett, but they did not positively link him to all of the break-ins.

Barrett is charged with possession with intent to sell marijuana, possession of a stolen firearm, breaking and entering into a motor vehicle with theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Barrett appeared in court Monday. He told WRAL News he wasn’t at the Lenovo Center on Friday. Then, he said he attended the NBA YoungBoy concert that night at the venue.

WRAL News asked Barrett if he had anything to say about the accusation he stole a gun.

“What stolen firearm?” Barrett said. “I don’t know [anything] about that. Why are y’all following me?”

Raleigh police said there are three stolen guns unaccounted for, and they have not made any other arrests other than Barrett.

“We did not locate any suspects in that area,” said Raleigh police Lt. David Davis. He did not say how they connected Barrett to the venue.

WRAL News asked Raleigh police how many vehicles Barrett is accused of breaking into. Davis said Barrett is accused of breaking into one car. The remaining 11 are still under investigation, Davis said.

Davis said despite Friday’s car break-ins, that specific crime is down 23% year over year. He said while any break-in can be difficult for the individual, patrols this weekend were successful.

“When you look at the number of vehicle break-ins and how quickly we were able to apprehend one subject and stop those break-ins from occurring, that is a win as far as from a police perspective and we’re very proud of that,” Davis said.

Barrett posted $65,000 bond. He's due back in court on Nov. 17.
