Gun found inside Vance County Middle School classroom, student detained

Authorities found a gun Thursday inside of a classroom at Vance County Middle School.

The Vance County Sheriff’s Office said the school resource officer secured the gun at the school at 293 Warrenton Road in Henderson and then notified the sheriff’s office.

Deputies detained a student and took the person to the sheriff’s office for further investigation.

Authorities also notified the student's parents. The sheriff's office said the student is back with the parents as of Friday.

The sheriff’s office said no injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
