The Garner community is grappling with the loss of Joey Adams, a beloved husband and father of five, who was fatally shot while driving home from work on Timber Drive.
The news has left his family and friends in shock and disbelief, as they try to come to terms with the sudden act of violence.

“I’ve been in tears all day. I’m a grown man. I don’t cry. I don’t know what to say. I don’t know how to feel. I’m numb. It’s a different type of feeling, I lost my brother," said DJ Corcoran, Adams' friend of 28 years.
Adams was found shot inside a car during a welfare check Monday night in the area of Timber Drive and Vandora Springs Road. First responders took Adams to a hospital, where he later died.
Corcoran described Adams as a loyal friend and a memorable figure in the lives of those he encountered. Corcoran is urging the person responsible to come forward.
“Turn yourself in, man," Corcoran said. "You don’t know who you took from us. Anybody that knows Joey or ever met Joey Adams will remember Joey Adams. He will hold strong in your heart."
According to the Garner Police Department, investigators spent hours at the scene and are still trying to uncover the circumstances that led to the shooting, asking anyone who traveled through that area between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday to turn over any dash camera footage.
“Even the smallest detail can help my investigators peace together the puzzle and bring some closure and some answers for the Adams family. For Joseph’s family and friends," said Capt. David Casteline.
