Suspect at the center of book about violent drug ring at Fort Bragg convicted of murder

The man featured in a book about deaths at Fort Bragg was convicted on eight federal charges, including first-degree murder, drug conspiracy and obstruction of justice. 

Kenneth Quick Jr., 26, of Laurinburg, killed two people after a planned drug deal and then left their bodies in the woods on Fort Bragg. 

 The victims were later identified as Master Sgt. William LaVigne and Timothy Dumas, a veteran. 

Prosecutors say Quick coordinated with others to escape the base after their killings. 

He was officially charged in connection to the murders in 2023. 

The murders were the focus of a book called The Fort Bragg Cartel by Seth Harp, a military veteran and Rolling Stone contributing editor. In an interview with WRAL, Harp called the military based a "massive drug market." 

Quick faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison. 

He is expected to be sentenced in August.
