Former Rocky Mount police chief takes job leading NC A&T University Police Department

The former Rocky Mount police chief has accepted the top police job at North Carolina A&T State University.

Robert Hassell will begin serving as NC A&T’s police chief on Aug. 1.

“Chief Hassell’s extensive service in law enforcement leadership made him an outstanding candidate for North Carolina A&T,” said Chancellor James R. Martin II. “We look forward to the impact I believe he will have on our exemplary police department and public safety operations.”

Hassell served as the Rocky Mount police chief for more than four years. He has nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks and best wishes to Chief Hassell as he embarks on this new journey with North Carolina A&T State University Police,” the Rocky Mount Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.
