North Carolina prosecutors have announced they will seek the death penalty against a man accused of stabbing three people, including a child, in Fayetteville last year.
Mackendy Darbouze is charged with three counts of first-degree murder after police said three family members were stabbed to death inside a Fayetteville home.

According to prosecutors, Darbouze stabbed 77-year-old Beatrice Desir along with a 13-year-old and a 4-year-old multiple times inside the home on Bellarthur Lane.
Police told WRAL News the victims and Darbouze lived in the same home and knew each other, adding they were all relatives.
Police did not elaborate on the nature of their relationship.
Prosecutors have said there was an 11-year-old, 7-year-old and an infant in the house at the time of the stabbing, and the homeowners were not home. They said a home video captured Darbouze walking through the home several times with the knife, and when he answered the door as police arrived, he had blood on his hands, face and pants.
ICE agents were called to the home immediately after the stabbing to help interview Darbouze, who speaks no English. According to ICE, Darbouze spoke only Creole.
Darbouze is in the United States legally, having entered in July 2024, but U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers placed a detainer on him after he was arrested.
