Fayetteville police investigate crash that left a woman dead and a man facing multiple charges

A woman is dead, and a man faces multiple charges after a crash on Sunday morning in Fayetteville.

Fayetteville police were called shortly after 11 a.m. to reports of a crash on Morganton Road near Hearstone Drive.

During an investigation, officers said a man driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck at high speeds crashed into a woman driving a 2019 Volkswagen, causing it to crash into a utility pole.

Police identified the woman as 64-year-old Luz Arroyo from Fayetteville. She later died from her injuries.

Richard Goodyear, 41, was the driver of the Dodge Ram pickup truck. Police said he was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and is expected to be OK.

Goodyear is facing several charges, including misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, careless and reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road and failure to reduce speed to avoid colliding with a vehicle.

Police said the investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Officer C. Lewis at (910) 818-1872.
