Person dead after Goldsboro house fire

A person is dead and a firefighter was injured in a late evening house fire in Goldsboro Saturday. 

According to the Goldsboro Fire Department, units were dispatched to a fire at a home on North James Street just before midnight. They said crews made an aggressive interior fire response. The department did not mention how badly the fire damaged the home. 

While inside, firefighters found one person that died from injuries sustained in the fire. 

One firefighter was injured and taken to UNC Health Wayne for minor injuries. They have since been released from the hospital. 

In a post on Facebook, officials with the Goldsboro Fire Department reminded people of the importance of routinely checking their homes smoke alarms to make sure they are working. 

"They truly save lives by giving early warning and those few extra seconds to escape," the post read in part. 

Goldsboro fire and the N.C. Office of the State Fire Marshal is still investigating the cause of the fire.
