State troopers told WRAL News they believe the accident occurred around 2:45 a.m. but the car wasn’t discovered until hours later.
Preliminary information suggests that Zoey Barr was speeding on Norrington Road when she crossed the center line, went off the roadway and went airborne into an embankment and overturned, landing upside down in a nearby pond.
According to state troopers, it was also raining at the time of the accident.
Friends of Barr's family set up a GoFundMe, but said "no money could ever fix this, no money could bring her back to us and no money will ever heal our hearts."
The GoFundMe was set up on behalf of Barr's mother, "who is going to have to face the questions and plan for everything ahead."
