A woman and her mother are facing several charges in connection with a deadly crash that happened Saturday morning in Harnett County. 

The State Highway Patrol told the WRAL Breaking News Tracker that a gray car was speeding before it crashed at the intersection of McArtan Road and Elliott Bridge Road in Linden, which is north of Fayetteville near Anderson Creek, right around 12 p.m.

The two people in the car were not wearing seatbelts, and the passenger, Timothy McLean, died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle jumped from the car and ran, according to the trooper. 

On Sunday, the driver, identified as 40-year-old Goldie Marlene Marsh, was arrested by authorities and faces a series of charges including: 

  • Felony death by vehicle
    • Felony hit and run, causing serious injury or death
      • Driving while impaired
        • Driving while license revoked
          • Reckless driving - wanton disregard
            • Failure to report accident
              • Possession of drug paraphernalia
                • Failure to wear seat belt - driver

                  Marsh's mother, Sharon Blackman Marsh, 67, is also facing charges related to the crash. According to arrest warrants, Sharon Marsh is accused of picking up her daughter following the crash and misleading officers about who was driving the vehicle at the time of the wreck. 

                  Sharon Marsh told WRAL that her daughter has a history of drug abuse. Marsh said her daughter called her Saturday morning after the crash and needed a ride. 

                  "All she did was call and say she was walking up the road," Marsh said.

                  Marsh is charged with obstruction, aiding and abetting and resisting a public officer. She denies the charges against her, saying she could only go with the information her daughter gave her. 

                  "I'm disappointed in her, very disappointed in her. She should have told me the truth when I picked her up that he was down there in the car, wrecked. But she didn't."

                  "I didn't know he was dead until a state trooper called and told me a dead passenger was in my car. That's the first I knew about it."

                  Goldie Marsh was already facing charges of felony possession of cocaine from an October arrest. She is being held without bond at the Harnett County Jail. Court documents indicate Goldie Marsh is also wanted by authorities in Kentucky, where she had been convicted of identity theft.

                  Sharon Marsh posted a bond of $10,000.

                  Both women are scheduled to have their first appearance at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the Harnett County Courthouse.
