A Durham family is now rallying behind the children of a woman who was killed in what police say was a domestic violence murder suicide.
ShaKeva Dixon, 27, was found dead on Wednesday along with her children’s father, 36-year-old Maurice Langston, police said.

Family members told WRAL News they are heartbroken.
“She was a nice, intelligent, smart mom. She always had my back when I was down,” Aver're said, Dixon's eldest daughter.
In many instances where both parents are killed in a domestic violence situation, the children have no choice but to go into foster care.
According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, there are already more than 10,000 children currently in the system.
Dixon's grandmother, Lenore Peay, said she won't let that happen to her great granddaughters.
“They are going to be loved and taken care of, but you know we can’t bring the mom back,” Peay said.
Peay said the family currently has temporary custody of Dixon's three children and are working to gain sole custody.
“We have a large family and we are going to have to pull together at this time. We are still doing the best we can and making sure that they are taken care of," Peay said.
Family members have created a GoFundMe to help support the children.
