DCEMS said Rodgers's final heroic act was to share her life with others in need as an organ donor.

There will be an honor walk at Duke University Medical Center as Rodgers goes into surgery tonight. The walk begins at 9 p.m.

Rodgers joined DCEMS in 2020 and was well-regarded for her warmth, kindness and joy she brought to her colleagues and patients alike.

"In 2023, she was seriously injured at work and endured a long, difficult recovery," the DECMS said in a Facebook post. "[But she continued] to work hard through physical therapy to return to the job and people she loved."

Every day, lives are saved through organ and bone marrow donation. But the decision to become a donor is personal.
