Durham City council approves $4.5 million funding for affordable housing crisis

Durham city leaders approved multi-million dollars in funds to tackle the ongoing affordable housing challenge.

The city council voted on a $4.5 million funding plan to support the development and the preservation of homes impacting hundreds of families. The initiative will also provide services for low-income residents.

The effort is led by the City’s Housing and Neighborhood Services Department and will accommodate both new construction and renovating existing units. Some of the upcoming projects are expected to develop 270 units and help stabilize 135 households. 

The funds will be awarded to several community partners including Housing for New Hope, Surber Development, and Durham Bragtown Walk LLC, Durham Children's Initiative and L'Arche North Carolina.
