Duke Health breaks ground on new hospital expansion in Cary

Duke Health is breaking ground on a new hospital facility in Cary Thursday morning in an effort to provide health care services to a growing area. 

The new building will be more than 110,000 square feet, according to the North Caroline Medical Care Commission May meeting agenda. 

The agenda also states that there will be a free-standing emergency department, an ambulatory surgical center with six rooms, four gastrointestinal endoscopy rooms and 30,000 sq. ft. of clinical infusion space. Duke Health said they have already gotten approval for forty hospital beds. 

"At Duke Health, we strive to provide hope, health, and healing by bringing high-quality care closer to where our patients live and work," Craig Albanese, M.D. chief executive officer of Duke University Health System, said. 

Duke Health also said the new expansion will provide jobs to about 1,600 people. 

The phase is set to be complete by 2027, costing hundreds of million dollars.

The ground breaking is at 10 a.m. Thursday at Duke Health Cary at 100 Duke Health Cary Place, Cary, NC.
