Sheriff: Chatham woman was attacked by man’s 3 dogs in fatal mauling

An Apex man is facing more charges in connection with a woman's death as investigators found that his dogs attacked her.

Dennis O’Keith Faulkner was charged with felony involuntary manslaughter as investigators found Betty Alston died from injuries in a dog attack on Alston Road near Apex. Alston was in her 80s.

Deputies said a family member found three dogs in the yard near Alston and had to chase them away. The dogs belonged to Faulkner, according to the Chatham County Sheriff's Office.

The 32-year-old was previously charged with several animal-related offenses. Faulkner was charged with three counts of misdemeanor allowing animals to roam at large prohibited and three counts of misdemeanor dog/cat/ferret vaccination violation.

Faulkner was arrested on Wednesday, received no bond, and has a June 3 court appearance.

Alston's family members previously told WRAL News that neighbors had called animal control about Faulkner's dogs. Deputies said Faulkner was warned about county ordinances that require that owners keep dogs confined to their property.
