Code yellow lockdown issued for three Wake County schools

Three Wake County schools were put on code yellow lockdowns Thursday.

On Thursday, Wake County Public School System announced Abbotts Creek Elementary, Durant Road Elementary and Durant Road Middle schools were each on a code yellow lockdown.

In a release from county officials, the district said code yellow means there is something in the community that may pose a threat to the school, but there is no imminent threat to the school.

Raleigh police told WRAL News the schools were placed on code yellow lockdown after they were called to an Advance Auto Parts store nearby on Durant Road for a larceny. Police said they did not see any weapons, and the suspect ran away. 

Officers said they have not found the suspect. Police said the schools in the immediate area were put on lockdown, but should be back on code green soon.  

On Thursday, Smithfield-Selma Senior High School was also on lockdown for the second time in as many days. Smithfield Middle School and Neuse Charter School were put on "secure mode" due to police activity in the area.
