Police are investigating a crash Tuesday involving a Chapel Hill Transit bus.

According to the Chapel Hill Police Department, officers responded to a crash around 2:48 p.m. on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard southbound near Umstead Drive.

Police said during their investigation, they learned the bus driver got off the bus near Bolinwood Drive and it began to roll toward Umstead Drive.

"We're grateful no one was seriously hurt this afternoon," said Brian Litchfield, director of Chapel Hill Transit. "The safety of our customers and community is our greatest responsibility. Now, we turn our attention to learning what led to this."

One person was taken to the hospital for "non-life-threatening injuries," and the bus driver was placed on leave while police continue their investigation.
