Chapel Hill police have arrested a 74-year-old man in connection with a shooting near Franklin and Graham streets on Thursday.
Officers were called just before 6:15 p.m. on Thursday evening. In a post on Facebook, officers said when they arrived, police found a person who had been shot in the foot.

Authorities took the person to UNC Hospitals and is expected to be OK.
Police said 74-year-old Geary Wayne Council was arrested after he was accused of the shooting. He faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, damage to property, discharging a firearm in the city and going armed to the terror of the public.
Police Chief Celisa Lehew said it did not take long to find a suspect after the shots were fired.
“We are really fortunate that we have a downtown police unit set patrols Franklin Street 24 seven and that is assigned to this area and could immediately respond and make that arrest,” Lehew said.
Witnesses said they were shocked to see something like this happen on Franklin Street.
"Usually these things kind of happen away from everything or behind closed doors," said Mitch Virchick, a Chapel Hill resident. "Out in the open, that’s a little scary.”
Police said this is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. The investigation is still ongoing.
