Organizers are preparing for upcoming concerts at Carter-Finley Stadium to avoid traffic nightmares seen last summer.

Guns N’ Roses and Noah Kahan are the latest concerts being hosted at NC State's football Stadium. This comes less than a year after traffic troubles during the Chris Brown concert at the stadium.

“I didn’t see Chris Brown,” Alison Davis said. “I bought tickets to see Chris Brown, but I didn’t see him.”

Davis was one of the many people stuck in gridlocked traffic with vehicles not moving for hours. She had planned to get to the concert about an hour before it was scheduled to start.

Her advice is to heed what organizers say about getting there early.

“Get there earlier than what you think,” Davis said. “Spend the night.”

NC State isn’t advising to get there quite that early, but definitely as early as you can.

Digital billboards went up Tuesday along the highways around the stadium, warning of increased traffic. For both shows, the parking lots open at 1:30 p.m., and they are preparing people for increased traffic around the stadium from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

It also suggests purchasing parking in advance from carterfindleystadium.com. Parking on the day of the concerts will be $60.

Nearby, the State Fairgrounds will also have parking spaces available.

“A lot of planning has gone into the two concerts coming up this week,” Kent Yelverton, Director of the NC State Fair, said. “We feel like the public is going to come and have a great time at these concerts.”

Yelverton said lots will be open along Trinity Road at the Horse Complex, Bunn Field and a little further south at the Cardinal Lots near NC-54.

“We are making what we can available to make getting people in and getting them parked as easy as possible,” Yelverton said.

Yelverton said there are many different circumstances around these two shows that make him believe it won’t be as busy as last year.

While Noah Kahan’s concert is sold out, Guns N’ Roses is not at this point. Plus, last year’s shows had to compete with other events in the area at the same time. Chris Brown’s show was right before the start of the State Fair, so things were a bit more congested and later in the week, Billie Eilish had a concerts at Lenovo Center that overlapped with the opening days of the State Fair.

“There are lessons learned, and we all sit down afterward and talk about what went right and what went wrong,” Yelverton said. “Last year’s concert at the stadium was the first one in a while. Personnel has changed, the ideas, the roads, all of these things have changed. There was a lot of conversation and sitting down saying, ‘what can we do different? What can we do better?’ and I think there will be great results this week.”
