Arrest: Burlington teacher assaulted student at middle school

A 50-year-old teacher in Burlington was charged with assault on Dec. 12, after he allegedly got physical with a student at Turrentine Middle School. 

Derek Tang faces a single charge of simple assault for what police described as "an isolated incident." 

They did not release the identify or age of the student, and a mug shot of Tang was not made available. 

Tang was given $1,500 secured bond, and police said Alamance-Burlington School System was cooperating with the investigation.
