Beryl Road will close Monday at Interstate 440 in west Raleigh. The month-long closure will allow for the demolition of a bridge as part of the I-440 improvements project.
Work will begin around 8 a.m. on Monday, April 21, and is expected to be finished by Monday, May 19.

According to the state Department of Transportation, during the closure, eastbound Beryl Road will be detoured to Pylon Drive, Hutton Street to Ligon Street, Blue Ridge Road, Western Boulevard and Method Road back to eastbound Beryl Road.
Traffic for westbound Beryl Road will detour to Method Road and Western Boulevard and then Blue Ridge Road or Powell Drive to reaccess Beryl Road.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down and allow extra time for their commutes.
The I-440 project will widen I-440 from four to six lanes and replace pavement and bridges between Walnut Street in Cary and Wade Avenue in Raleigh. The project is expected to be complete by the end of 2025.
Earlier in April, WRAL viewers talked about enduring construction barrels and closed lanes along I-440 between Raleigh and Cary for years.
Widening I-440 began in the fall of 2019, with an estimated completion date of summer 2023.
Over time, the project has hit several snags, including in November 2021 when contractor Lane Construction incurred a $280,000 for a 28-hour delay in opening the Western Boulevard interchange. Portions of the project were also delayed, including construction on I-440 at Blue Ridge Road, and in 2022, WRAL News found that the widening was two years behind schedule.
NCDOT spokesperson Kim Deaner said frustrated drivers will thank the state in the long run.
“Folks are going to love 440 once they use all those lanes and once all those barrels go away,” Deaner said.
