Benson police say grandfather accused of shooting grandson was acting in 'self defense'

 

Benson Police are investigating a shooting involving a man and his grandson. 

Police received a shooting call just before 6 p.m. Wednesday at a home on East Kennedy Circle. Authorities said the 83-year-old man living at the home fired a shotgun at his 27-year-old grandson injuring him. 

The grandson was transported to WakeMed for treatment. He was in stable condition on Wednesday.

After consulting with the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office, Benson police said they did not charge the man because it appeared to be self defense. The incident remains under investigation.
