Atlanta-bound flight lands in Charlotte after fumes reported in cockpit

A Delta Air Lines flight from New York to Atlanta diverted to Charlotte on Wednesday, reportedly due to fumes in the cockpit.

WCNC Charlotte reports Delta Air Lines Flight 2286 landed in Charlotte around 7:45 a.m. The crew of the Boeing 757 reported they were experiencing fumes in the cockpit, but not in the cabin.

DAL2287 departed New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport at 6:13 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport at 8:24 a.m.

In Charlotte, the flight successfully taxied to the gate, where officials inspected the aircraft.

The flight was outside Wilkesboro, North Carolina when it diverted to Charlotte, according to flight tracking data.
