The legacy of Nelson Mandela


The world mourns the loss of Nelson Mandela, a man who survived 27 years in prison to become a worldwide icon of equality and liberation. The former South Africa president died Dec. 5, 2013, at the age of 95.

WRAL anchor David Crabtree and photographer Pete James travel to Johannesburg, where a massive funeral Tuesday for the late president is expected to draw more than 100,000 mourners. The Rev. Michael Battle, a priest with the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina who lived in South Africa and was ordained by Bishop Desmond Tutu, travels with the WRAL team to provide special insight.
