WITN reports a man armed with a gun was fatally shot by law enforcement at an Elizabeth City hospital.
Around 1:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Elizabeth City police officers were called to the Sentara Albemarle Medical Center emergency room.

Law enforcement found the man holding the gun in the ER triage room when they got to the hospital.
According to deputies, the suspect pointed the gun at law enforcement, who then exchanged gunfire with the suspect.
The suspect was hit by gunfire. He received medical attention immediately, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies said, before they arrived, the man had entered the ER and pointed the gun at multiple staff members. An unarmed security guard with Sentara tried to stop the suspect while waiting for authorities to arrive.
According to deputies, the suspect assaulted the security guard, who was treated on the scene for injuries.
No deputies or police officers were injured.
The three deputies who shot the man are currently on administrative leave with pay pending investigation, according to the sheriff's office.
The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
