Apex mayor wants immediate removal of racist graffiti at Beaver Creek Crossings

The community of Apex is speaking out after residents caught sight of graffiti depicting racist, homophobic and antisemitic language on top of a Beaver Creek Crossings building.

The vandalism, shown in a Facebook post on an Apex community page, sparked outrage. 

One of the people disappointed to see the hateful messages was Apex Mayor Jacques Gilbert.

“This is something that we don’t accept in our community, I take it personally,” Gilbert said. 

Gilbert feels strongly that the messages aren't what the town represents.

"We want to make sure that everyone understands we will continue to work diligently to address issues like this, and this is something that does not reflect who we are,” he said.

He told WRAL News he hopes the vandalizers are held responsible.

“I want to make sure that it’s addressed immediately," Gilber said. "I have made contact with the management group of the shopping center. And they have a building engineer on the way to remove it immediately.”

Apex police said the owner of the building would have to report the vandalism to trigger a criminal  investigation. WRAL is working to get in touch with the management company of the Beaver Creek shopping plaza.

Gilbert said he will personally wait at the plaza to meet with building managers to work on getting the graffiti washed off as soon as possible.
