North Carolina is gearing up for a major Fourth of July celebration.
The Department of Natural and Cultural Resources on Sunday announced the "Capitol 250: NC Freedom Fest."

It will be an all‑day event at the State Capitol in Raleigh marking the United States' 250th birthday. Organizers say it’s a chance to honor North Carolina’s ‘First in Freedom’ legacy while celebrating arts, history, and culture.
"It really is going to be all the things. We're going to have both a Revolutionary War area and a 'Military Through the Ages' area," said Ansley Herring Wegner, an organizer for Capitol 25. "There'll be exhibits inside the Capitol."
The festival will also feature music from Tift Merritt and Rissi Palmer. Other featured activities at the festivities will include:
- Kidzone sponsored by the Carolina Hurricanes.
- Trolley tours of historic downtown Raleigh.
- Living history and special exhibits
- More than 50 vendors and food trucks.
Capitol 250 organizers say the celebration will be complement a morning parade organized by the North Carolina Department of Labor and evening fireworks at Dix Park organized by the City of Raleigh.
Capitol 250 will be free and open to the public.
