15-year-old bicyclist dies after getting hit in Durham, police confirm

Durham police said a 15-year-old bicyclist was hit on Saturday night. The boy later died.

The crash occurred around 9 p.m. near the intersection of Cole Mill Road and Wyndham Lane.

The Durham Police Department's Traffic and Crash Team responded to the scene. 

The boy was on an e-bike and rode in front of a Ford Explorer, driven by Joseph Savarino, 26, of Durham. 

The boy died at the scene. Savarino was charged with driving while impaired. 

It is unclear if Savarino will face any other charges. Police are still investigating this crash.
