Wilson woman accused of defrauding police chief, mayor and husband in identity theft scheme

WILSON, N.C.-- A Wilson County woman faces 190 charges related to identity theft, insurance fraud and practicing medicine without a license.

WRAL Investigates received a tip to look deeper into the charges. We found among her victims, her husband, who's a Wilson Police Department officer, the Wilson Police chief and the mayor of Wilson.

Heather Ann Robinson was arrested in October following an investigation that spanned more than six months. The Department of Insurance's Criminal Investigations Division is handling the case.

According to arrest warrants, Robinson is accused of stealing multiple identities, including her husband's, to file false insurance claims and obtain emergency funding from his retirement accounts.

Her husband, Kenneth Robinson, was initially placed on leave earlier this year during the investigation. Wilson police tell us he is now on active duty.

Court records show she collected more than $87,000 and attempted to steal an additional $157,000.

Robinson is also accused of stealing medical information of a Wilson-area pediatrician to obtain get prescriptions for popular weight loss medications.

Investigators say she administered those medications to 20 people. She faces charges for practicing medicine without a license for each of them.

WRAL Investigates searched the names of people who received the drugs. Among them, Wilson Police Chief Benny Boykin and Mayor Carlton Stevens.
