The Superintendent Search Committee of the Wake County Board of Education will meet Oct. 14 at 5:30 p.m., chairwoman Debra Goldman told her colleagues Tuesday.
Goldman, Chris Malone, Deborah Prickett and Carolyn Morrison make up the committee tasked with selecting a new leader for the state's largest school system.
Superintendent Del Burns resigned effective June 30 after a dispute about the direction the board was taking the district. Burns accused some board members of "political partisan gamesmanship" when it comes to educating students.
Donna Hargens, the system's chief academic officer, is filling the role on an interim basis.
The board has contracted with search firm Heidrick & Struggles at an estimated cost of $82,500 to help define the position and choose qualified candidates.
Goldman invited her colleagues on the board to attend the committee meeting and provide their input.
She said she has been encouraged by the level of interest in the position and said representatives Heidrick & Struggles will brief the board on the list of candidates next week.
