RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission recommended a new trial Friday night after a week-long hearing in the case of the five Winston-Salem teens convicted in the killing of NBA star Chris Paul’s grandfather.
The commission recommended there be new trials in Forsyth County in the future. The cases will move before three judges who will decide their guilt or innocence.
Earlier this week, a key witness, Jessicah Black, recanted her testimony in the case. Black now says she lied in court after police coerced her into implicating the teens in the killing of Nathaniel Jones on Nov. 15, 2002.
